Frequently asked questions
What does compounded mean?
A compounded peptide is a peptide medication that is custom‑prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy for an individual patient, based on a prescription, instead of being mass‑manufactured by a drug company.
Compounding is the process of preparing that peptide into a usable medication (for example, a vial, cream, or capsule) in a specific dose or formulation that isn’t commercially available.
Creating customized medications by mixing, diluting, or adjusting ingredients
Done by a licensed pharmacist in a state‑licensed compounding pharmacy
Performed only with a valid prescription for a specific patient
Compounded drugs (including peptides) are not FDA‑approved products, meaning the FDA does not review each compounded formulation for safety or effectiveness before it’s dispensed.
Compounded Peptide
Prepared by a licensed pharmacy under U.S. compounding laws (e.g., Section 503A or 503B)
Patient‑specific
Prescription‑only
Regulated by state pharmacy boards (and sometimes the FDA)
Are compounded peptides FDA approved?
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved as finished products. That said, the ingredients they’re made from are often FDA-approved, and the pharmacies themselves are FDA regulated.
What matters most is where the components of a compounded peptide are coming from and how it’s being prescribed. The Wellness Company only works with licensed providers and regulated compounding pharmacies that follow strict quality and sterility standards.
What is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, which mimics a hormone known as glucagon-like peptide-1 that your gut naturally produces. After eating, your body releases GLP-1 from small intestine cells, aiding in blood sugar control, regulation, and gastric motility. Semaglutide, a synthetic version of this hormone, is designed to remain in your system longer, allowing for weekly administration.
Approved by the FDA in 2017 as Ozempic for type 2 diabetes at doses up to 2.0 mg weekly, it received a higher dose approval in 2021 at 2.4 mg per week as Wegovy for chronic weight management. Semaglutide has been extensively researched in large clinical trials, including the STEP program and the SELECT cardiovascular outcomes trial, involving thousands of participants, providing substantial human data on its efficacy.
By activating GLP-1 receptors in various parts of the body, including the brain pancreas, stomach, and cardiovascular system, semaglutide facilitates weight loss and metabolic. Users often experience a body weight reduction of 8 to 18% within 6 to 12 months, with many noting a significant appetite suppression, especially at higher doses, as food becomes less appealing without requiring willpower.
Combining Semaglutide with resistance training and adequate protein intake is crucial. Without this combination, 35 to 40% of the weight lost may come from lean mass. Engaging in resistance training 2 to 3 times a week and consuming at least 1 gram of protein per pound of target body weight can significantly improve this ratio. Case studies have shown patients losing substantial with minimal muscle loss, and some even gaining muscle while losing weight through consistent training and proper protein intake.
What is Tirzepatide?
Tirzepatide is a dual receptor agonist that activates both GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors concurrently This synthetic peptide, consisting of 39 amino acids and modified with a C20 fatty diacid chain for prolonged half-life of about 5 days, allows for once-weekly dosing.
Its significance lies in the dual receptor activation unlike prior incretin-based medications that targeted only GLP-1, Tirzepatide enhances weight loss by activating both GIP and GLP-1, as supported by clinical trial data.
Tirzepatide is also under investigation for conditions such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and other metabolic disorders. By activating these incretin hormone receptors, Tirzepatide improves insulin release, stabilizes blood sugar levels, and enhances nutrient partitioning, leading to better overall metabolic health and weight loss outcomes.
